I completed this website design and code for Greg in roughly 6 hours one day late January 2009. Greg was running for student union president at my University and was in desperate need of a new website, as his current one was not cutting it.

  • Modern Cognition - Business Card

    Business Card

This is the business card I made to promote my website. As you can see the design matches the website; one side is blue with some sky to match my website header and the other side has the wood pattern and the same colours as the content. I think this is pretty cool.

    Web Prototype 5

After receiving critique that Prototype 4 was too dark, Prototype 5 started out as a lighter version of it. After several days of work it started to diverge into the template you see now. All of my design ideaolgies have been used in this template; it is simple, clean and attactive, easy to navigate, and has lots of relevant informaton on the front page that is laid out in a thoughtful way. I was extremely happy with this design, but I decided not to use it because it just wasn't as personal as I wanted my portfolio to be.

With Prototype 4 I went in a completely new direction; I wanted to create a deep underwater type feeling. I continued with my main ideaologies of keeping the website clean, easy to navigation and accessible. I again used the quotation in the header to make it easy for users to determine what the website was about. The naviation wis simple at the top of the page, and the homepage includes a lot of important (and relevant) information such as reasons why you should hire me, recent work, and new blog posts.

  • Modern Cognition - Web Prototype 3

Modern Cognition's third layout, Prototype 3, is a progression from Prototype 2; it uses the same colour scheme but improves the layout of the site as well as the efficiency and ease of use of the naviation.

While working on this layout I put a lot of thought into how a user approaches a page, and how to best present my content. The navigation is easy to see and prominent at the top of the page. The quotation in the header is both unique and describes the purpose of the page to the user (so it is clear as soon as they reach the page). The top left of the navigation page also includes the page you are currently viewing to help you keep your bearings.

  • Modern Cognition - Web Prototype 2

    Web Prototype 2

This was the second design I made for Modern Cognition after deciding that Prototype [1] was not what I was looking for. I tried to do something unique with the colour scheme and logo placement again with this design. After posting it on several web design communities I again received mainly positive feedback; many others again though that the colour scheme was unique and they liked the logo and logo placement once again. The flower details were also appreciated.

Furthermore, the dates for posted content were moved outside the layout itself which was rather unique.

This was the first layout I made for Modern Cognition. It was a hybrid portfolio/blog layout and it is quite attractive. I posted this on a few web design communities and received mainly positive critique; this design was expecially noted for it's unique colour scheme, logo, and logo orientation.

  • Miscellaneous - Web Prototype 1

    Miscellaneous

    Web Prototype 1

This layout was created for a project I was working on in 2007 that never got off the ground. The website was going to be a marketplace for all different types of digital goods, and this layout serves that purpose well. The focus was intuitive navigation and a layout that made the content really stand out; I think both were accomplished with this design.
